WINSTON-SALEM — A second man has been charged in an attack on a 79-year-old man last month.

Winston-Salem police said that Benjamin Jacob Schenk, 45, of Statesville, has been charged with first degree burglary, armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in the Forsyth County jail on a $250,000 bond.

Last week, police said a man charged in the attack was extradited back to Forsyth County from Chester, S.C. David Wayne Hemrick Jr., 33, of Mooresville, remains in jail on a $430,000 bond on the same charges that Schenk now faces.

Police charged both men in connection with a July 17 attack on Edsel Cooley, 79. Cooley had answered a knock on his door in the 500 block of Acadia Avenue. When Cooley opened the door, he was attacked by two men.
