Man knocked off scooter, shot in the head with BBs

BURLINGTON — A local man survived an attack early today during which he was knocked off a scooter and shot in the head three times with a BB gun.

Burlington police said Al Sairfi Mutasem, 37, of Burlington, was treated at and released from Alamance Regional Medical Center after the attack.

According to police, Mutasem was driving his scooter east in the 3000 block of Morningside Drive at 2:24 a.m. Friday when a vehicle hit him from behind. The collision knocked Mutasem off his scooter. Police said two men got out of the vehicle and demanded money. One of the men had a BB pistol.

Before Mutasem could pull out his wallet, he was shot three times in the head. The men got back in their car and drove away east on Morningside.

Police said the vehicle is a white 1980s model Chevrolet Caprice sedan. The first suspect, who had the BB pistol, is a black man with a medium build. He wore a white and gray shirt, blue jeans and a yellow and blue ski mask. Police said the second suspect is a black man with a thin build who wore a white and gray shirt, blue jeans and a white T-shirt over his face.
