WINSTON-SALEM - Parents of a three-week-old baby who arrived at the hospital earlier this week with broken bones were arrested and charged today with felony child abuse.

Christopher Lee Daniels, 20 and Christina Elaine Courtner, 20 of 3731 Leake St. in Walkertown were charged with two counts each of felony child abuse, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office news release.

On Sunday afternoon, the couple's baby boy was transported by EMS to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with broken bones and injuries inconsistent with the reasons guardians gave for the child being transported to the hospital.

Investigators arrived and immediately began their investigation which ultimately led to the charges.

Daniels and Courtner are being held on separate $500,000 bonds at the Forsyth County Detention Center and are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 29.

The child remains hospitalized.
