2 arrested in death of High Point teen
HIGH POINT - Two people were arrested on charges they killed a 16-year-old boy whose body was found face down in a ditch Saturday, police said today.
Travis Lamont McConnell, of 818 Carter St., suffered from severe trauma about the upper torso and head, according to High Point police.
On Wednesday, detectives arrested two people on murder charges. Police, however, were not providing additional information as of Thursday afternoon.
"Due to the nature of this case, the court sealed all information relating to this investigation, including the names of the suspects," police said in a press release.
"The investigation is still ongoing and more charges are expected. Once the records are unsealed another press release will be made."
McConnell transferred from High Point Central to Southwest Guilford High School after he, his mother and 14-year-old brother, Joshua, moved last year. McConnell's mother, Regina Spears, said he had plenty of friends, but no enemies she knew about.
"I've just been searching myself for how this could have happened," she said earlier this week.
McConnell's body was discovered in the 700 block of Hines Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police ask people with information to call High Point Crimestoppers at 889-4000. Callers may remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.
