GREENSBORO — A city employee was arrested Friday, accused of taking nearly $10,000 from the Trotter Recreation Center, a city facility she supervised.
Delores Ann Scott, 55, of Greensboro, was charged with embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense.
According to arrest warrants, Scott submitted fraudulent receipts for payments provided to the Trotter Center, taking for her own use $9,934.93 from July 1, 2006, to May 31, 2008.
Scott was released from the Guilford County jail on a written promise to appear in court Sept. 17.
“Apparently someone going over the books realized there was some money missing, and they reported it to their supervisors,” said city spokesman Jim Collins.
Scott was no longer a city employee as of Thursday, Collins said.
In December, another city employee was fired after being charged with embezzlement in connection to thefts from downtown parking meters.
Wesley Alan Gregory of 5001 Shoreline Drive is accused of taking more than $3,550 from parking meters from March 2003 to May 2008, according to arrest warrants.
A bicycle patrol officer discovered the theft, police said.
Gregory was a parking technician who collected money from parking meters. He had worked for the city since 1983.
In addition, in September a police sergeant was arrested in connection with theft
from a privately funded educational program for children.
David A. Moore was indicted in February on accusations that he took more than $21,000 from the Safety Town program that he coordinated for more than six years.
