UNCG sells Journal Finder search interface
GREENSBORO - Journal Finder, a search interface developed by UNCG staff to provide easy access to a library's electronic resources, has been sold to North Carolina-based WT Cox Subscriptions for $350,000, the university stated Thursday in a news release.
The Electronic Resources and Information Technology staff of UNCG's University Libraries created Journal Finder in 2001. It now includes links to more than 40,000 academic journals, magazines, newspapers and newsletters, and is used by 43 institutions.
"We love Journal Finder," said Tim Bucknall, head of ERIT. "It's our ‘baby,' but running such a large-scale operation requires substantial time and effort. The sale will allow ERIT to devote more resources to building new services that we expect to be every bit as ground-breaking as Journal Finder."
Under the terms of the agreement, UNCG will continue to use Journal Finder at no charge for five years. Campus users of Journal Finder should not notice any change. WT Cox Subscriptions will pay UNCG the $350,000 in four annual payments.
