GREENSBORO - Deputies are looking for a man they say is impersonating a law enforcement officer and scamming victims out of property and money.
David Dale Anderson, 35 of an unknown address, is wanted on charges of obtaining property by false pretense, said Detective I.T. Holahan of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Anderson is accused of "arresting" a friend of his on Wild Turkey Road in Julian and getting the man to sign a deed giving him ownership to a piece of land in May.
The victim was never handcuffed and was taken back to a residence where Anderson had been staying and coerced into signing the deed, Holahan said.
In another incident, Anderson is accused of scamming a woman out of $4,000 by promising her protection from her ex-husband, Holahan said.
"He runs around and reports himself to be a military operative, bail bondsman or law enforcement," Holahan said.
"He's not dressing the part, but he's decked out his vehicle with the words "K-9 Enforcement" on the side."
Anderson is described as being a white male, 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds. A vehicle description was not immediately available.
Deputies don't have a confirmed address for Anderson, but say they have received calls he has been spotted in Salisbury and Asheboro.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Guilford County Sheriff's Office at 641-3694 or Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
