Construction on nature trail begins at Country Park

Wednesday, July 30
(updated 3:00 am)

The first phase of construction on the All Persons Nature Trail at Country Park began July 24.

The construction on the first portion of the planned 4,600-foot nature trail was made possible by donations from businesses, organizations and others in the community, said Larry Barham, park manager.

"We will be able to complete the first phase with the $40,000 in donations we received thus far. The entire trail will cost $200,000, so we've got a long way to go," he said.

The trail will have wheelchair access to off-road areas throughout the park - including the two lakes.

Once complete, the nature trail will connect to a paved walkway leading into the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.

To help the park complete its nature trail, residents are encouraged to contribute through one of the park's ongoing fundraising efforts.

To help, you can purchase an engraved honorary or memorial brick for $200, buy a foot or more of concrete walkway footage at $50 a foot, start a corporate sponsorship or make individual donations.

In 2007, motorcyclists with Riding for a Reason joined forces with Country Park to raise money.

To donate, make checks payable to Country Park, 3902 Nathaniel Greene Drive, Greensboro, NC 27455.

For more information on other donation opportunities, contact Larry Barham at 373-3648.
