A judge sentenced Sidney Lowe II's co-defendant today to at least 24 months in prison but recommended he serve time at a rehabilitation center.
Brian Patrick Martin, 20, had faced up to 30 years in prison for his role in a March 16, 2007, home invasion and a March 24, 2007, shooting at a UNCG dorm room.
Lowe, who had faced up to 23 years, received 15 months last week after he pleaded guilty to more than a dozen charges.
On Friday, Guilford County Superior Court Judge Henry Frye Jr. sentenced Martin to a 24 to 38 months in prison but recommended the N.C. Department of Correction send him to the Evergreen Rehabilitation Center, a private substance abuse treatment center.
Martin's parents declined to comment afterward.
Martin's attorney Amiel Rossabi described the family as being sad but relieved concerning the outcome.
"But they're looking to Brian to step up and get treatment and be a valuable member of the society," Rossabi said.
