GREENSBORO - A Greensboro man was arrested Thursday on charges he stole more than $21,000 in boneless pork loin from a Maryland trucking company.
John Wesley Hughes, 39 of 3206 Clarkson Road was arrested on a Maryland Governor's warrant on felony theft charges. Governor's warrants are issued in order extradite fugitives that are arrested in another state.
According to warrants, in February 2007 Hughes was a truck driver for Maryland-based TRL Inc. and was delivering cases of boneless pork loin to customers.
After making several deliveries, Hughes allegedly sold four pallets containing 200 cases of the meat to another driver at a Baltimore truck stop for around $700, according to a police report filed by Baltimore police.
The pork had an estimated value of $21,708.
The other driver spent a day at the truck stop selling the meat to other drivers for a large profit and was later arrested, the police report states.
Hughes is being held without bond at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro awaiting extradition to Maryland to face felony theft charges.
