Man wanted in attempted robbery captured
GREENSBORO - A suspect has been arrested in an attempted robbery that led three law enforcement agencies on a wild-goose chase Thursday afternoon.
Shawn Lenard Jennings, 26 of 1307 Youngs Mill Road is accused in the attempted robbery of Tobacco Word at 1027 Alamance Church Road at 11 a.m. Thursday. He was arrested by Greensboro police Friday.
Greensboro police responded to an attempted robbery call at the business Thursday and was told the robber had driven off.
A customer was able to get the robber's license plate number and the Guilford County Sheriff's Office headed to an address connected to the car in an unincorporated part of the county.
Deputies confronted the man near 1300 Youngs Mill Road, but he ran away before he could be arrested.
Authorities cordoned off the area and called in a Highway Patrol helicopter and spent much of the afternoon unsuccessfully trying to locate the suspect.
The time and circumstances regarding Jennings' arrest were not immediately available.
In addition to the attempted robbery charge, Jennings faces five unrelated charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon dating back to September 2007.
He also faces one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Jennings was being held on $200,000 bond at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro Friday night.
