Members of the Sedalia Town Council used their regular July meeting to update residents on several items:
• The town is on track to receive the Powell Bill funds issued by the state department of transportation.
Councilwoman Ophelia Jones announced that the committee formed to handle the town's application for the funds has until July 21 to get the proper documents to the office in Raleigh.
• Jones also announced that the state department of budget and management has officially started the process of looking for temporary employees to help with the 2010 Census.
"The Census needs to be very accurate so to have someone from Sedalia helping to gather the information on Sedalia would be helpful," she said.
• Mayor Pro Tem Willie Breeze Jr. explained to the residents that they can report nuisance ordinance violations to the town.
"It is confidential," he said.
The town has in the past and is currently having to get county officials involved with enforcing the ordinance.
"I want to make it known to the citizens that once it's reported, a letter is sent, and we want them to comply before Guilford County has to get involved," Breeze said.
Once the county gets involved, residents start to accumulate fines that can add up to thousands of dollars in a matter of weeks.
• Town clerk Cam Dungee also has a 30-minute DVD on hurricane safety issued by Get Ready, NC, available in the town hall for viewing from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
For information, contact Dungee at the town hall at 449-1132.
