GREENSBORO - Get your butts off the street.
That's the message from Downtown Greensboro Inc.
No, DGI isn't urging people to leave the center city. The downtown development organization wants smokers to be more careful with their cigarette litter.
To help that effort, DGI has received a $1,500 grant from Keep America Beautiful to expand its program preventing smokers from tossing aside their cigarette butts.
DGI used the money to buy 23 additional ash receptacles for Greene, Davie and Elm streets.
Installation has already begun, but not all the receptacles will be put up. Some will be used for replacements.
Using an initial $2,500 Keep America Beautiful grant last year, DGI put out 13 receptacles, which cut cigarette litter downtown by 30 percent.
