Entree Vous meal prep shop open in High Point

(Updated Friday, June 13 - 11:15 am)

A meal preparation venue has opened in High Point, and it is celebrating Mardi Gras.

Entrée Vous has opened in Suite 101 at 5870 Samet Drive at the Palladium Commons.

The shop will hold a Mardi Gras party starting at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with samples from the February menu, including Cajun BBQ Shrimp, Dijon Baked Chicken and Coq au Vin!

"We'll have Sing for Your Supper," says owner Joey Olivier, a New Orleans native. "We'll set up a karaoke machine where folks can sing and spin the prize wheel for a free meal."

Entrée Vous allows patrons to schedule a cooking session in which they put together entrees from a monthly menu. All the prep work on the ingredients has been done. Each family-size entree takes about 10 minutes to assemble. The meals can then be frozen for later use.

Not able to schedule a cooking session? No problem. The staff will assemble selected entrees for you on the spot. For larger orders and guaranteed availability, you can place your order online ahead of time.

To schedule a session, call 510-7474 or visit http://www.entree vous.com.

Take-out hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

New Orleans Celebration

On Tuesday, to celebrate Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, the restaurant will serve a New Orleans feast of crawfish etouffee, oysters on the half shell, Bananas Foster and other regional favorites.

Gtcc Sends Culinary Students To Canada

Four culinary arts students at GTCC are spending the semester at New Brunswick Community College in Canada in an exchange program where they are learning in and out of the classroom.

First-year students Matthew Alexander, Jeremy Lyall and Christopher McGraw have joined second-year student Jonathan Willis for the program. It is the first time GTCC has participated in an exchange program of this kind.

Bagel Celebration

Bruegger's Enterprises, a national bakery-cafe chain with 269 locations in 21 states, turns 25 in February. Many of the retail locations will be celebrating that milestone with 99-cent bagels on Friday.

All three Greensboro Bruegger's Bagels shops will participate in the celebration with 99-cent bagels with cream cheese from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday. At 11 a.m., stop in for a free slice of anniversary cake.

Bruegger's Bagels shops in Greensboro are at the Shops at North Elm, 431 Pisgah Church Road (545-0886); 3116 West Friendly Ave. at Friendly Center (547-0510); and 3211 Battleground Ave. (288-1030).

Restaurant Wins Magazine's Wine Award

Wine Enthusiast magazine has recognized Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar (3342 W. Friendly Ave.; 294-7790) in Greensboro with its coveted Award of Distinction.

The award, named in the February issue that lists the best restaurants in the world for wine for 2007, is based on the quality of the overall wine program.

The restaurant, at the Shops at Friendly, is known for its innovative Fleming's 100 wines-by-the-glass program.

Grocers Make Changes

A couple of grocery store items worth mentioning:

Shoppers at Harris Teeter at the Shops at Friendly may notice some differences the next time they stop by.

Last week, the store underwent renovations that include additional seating in the hot bar and fresh foods area and expanded options in the general merchandise section.

Meanwhile, shoppers in Gibsonville and west Burlington are getting a new Lowes Foods.

The Lowes Foods at 231 Burke St. in Gibsonville will close Tuesday to make room for a new Lowes Foods to open at 8 a.m. the following day just a few miles down the road at 1911 University Drive in Burlington.

"Many Burlington residents have been looking forward to having a new Lowes Foods store since we closed our stores in the area several years ago," says Lowes Foods president Curtis Oldenkamp. "We're excited to be reentering the market with a store that offers a much larger selection."

The 42,000-square-foot Lowes Foods "FreshSmart" store will feature full-service produce, meat, seafood, bakery and floral departments. Specialty items, natural and organic foods and an extensive selection of beer and wine will highlight the wide variety of goods.

Pizza Venue Closes

Zpizza at the Shoppes at the Palladium in North High Point has closed.

Chef Paul Godino, owner of the franchise that opened more than a year ago, says that sales were generally low, and he thinks the area is just not ready for the concept.

Godino says he would consider reopening in another location in the future.
