GREENSBORO - Police made a second arrest in the Monday night beating of 64-year-old store clerk this afternoon.
Geno Marco Ashe, 27 of Reidsville was arrested this afternoon and charged with attempted first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and first degree kidnapping.
A relative, Michael Jamarr Ashe, 20, of 219 Graves St. in Reidsville, was arrested Thursday and faces the same charges.
Both men are being held on separate $200,000 bonds at the Guilford County jail in Greensboro.
Police believe the duo entered the Kangaroo Express Mart at 101 Pisgah Church Road about 9 p.m. Monday and demanded money before attacking clerk Thomas Sprole by punching and kicking him in the head and torso.
The suspects are also accused of taking 72 packs of Newport cigarettes and $453 in the robbery.
The clerk was taken to Moses Cone Hospital and was in critical but stable condition as of Thursday. An update on his condition was not immediately available Friday night.
"This is more than your run-of-the-mill robbery," Greensboro police Cpl. J.L. Steinberg said Monday. "This is uncalled for and the community should be outraged by this."
Steinberg said the clerk lost a quite a bit of blood in the attack.
