HIGH POINT - A city official has asked police to investigate an alleged embezzlement of money at the High Point Housing Authority.
After a recent audit revealed $58,354 in missing funds, City Manager Strib Boynton asked High Point police to launch a criminal investigation, according to a letter Boynton sent Wednesday by e-mail to Robert Kenner, the authority's CEO.
Boynton said in the letter he learned of the missing money Tuesday afternoon and contacted police that evening.
The alleged embezzlement occurred in April or May 2005, according to the letter, and Kenner learned of the embezzlement sometime in July or August of this year.
Boynton said in the letter that authority staff are reviewing alternatives for recovering the money.
"Delaying a thorough and transparent criminal investigation while alternatives are being evaluated is equally troublesome," Boynton said in the letter.
