TRINITY - A teenager was killed Monday when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving, the Highway Patrol said.
At 7:20 a.m., Travis Charles Benfield, 16, of 4024 Kenwood Drive in Trinity, was driving his 1996 Pontiac south on Fairview Church Road when he traveled right off the road and overcorrected, officials said.
Benfield traveled across the center line and collided with a 1999 Nissan driven by Donna Marie Osborne, 49, of 320 Wynnewood Drive in Archdale, the Highway Patrol said.
Benfield's Pontiac overturned and came to rest on the right side of the road. Osborne traveled to the right and hit an embankment.
Benfield died as a result of his injuries. Osborne was taken to High Point Regional Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt, but Benfield was speeding, according to the Highway Patrol. No charges will be filed in the wreck.
