GREENSBORO -- A teacher at Dudley High School resigned after a student claimed the teacher assaulted him.
The altercation occurred Nov. 13 in a classroom. School officials and the school resource officer are investigating.
Robert Lee Bullard, a social studies teacher at Dudley, resigned on Nov. 13, said Haley Miller, a spokeswoman for Guilford County Schools. The 59-year-old teacher was hired in August.
The district didn't disclose the name of the student.
Bullard has not been charged criminally, said Lt. Brian Cheek, a Greensboro police spokesman.
"This type of incident is not tolerated by Guilford County Schools," the district said in an e-mailed statement. "A report will be provided to the State Superintendent for North Carolina Public Schools for further review and investigation. "
Amos Quick, vice-chairman of the Guilford County Schools Board of Education said that he had been approached by a small number of parents expressing concern over the incident.
But when he visited Dudley earlier today, he saw students carrying on as normal.
"It appears that things have settled down and learning is taking place there," Quick said.
