Correction: Caldwell Academy was incorrectly included in a story printed on the News & Record's Web site about residents and businesses who have violated the city's water restrictions during the drought.

The school did receive a citation for using sprinklers, but that was later waived because the school was using well water, which is not covered by the restrictions, for irrigation.

The school's name was included in a list the city provided to the News & Record after the city council agreed to list the names of violators.

A number of the biggest names among Greensboro businesses and institutions showed up on a list released Tuesday of violators of the city's water restrictions.

Offenders included Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro College, Holy Trinity Church and the Koury Corporation, as well as businesses ranging from fast food restaurants to banks to hotels.

Most of the fines given were for violations of the limits on sprinklers, which first were restricted to one day a week and then banned entirely.

The largest fines, given to repeat offenders, were for $500. Cracker Barrel and BB&T were among those receiving more than one citation.

The city had previously refused to release the names of those cited, but Greensboro City Council voted Monday night to release the information.

The list doesn't include the names of hundreds of other residents who city water patrol workers say violated the restrictions but only received warnings, not fines.

In agreeing to release the list of violations, council excluded their names. While all business violators received fines, residents received a warning for the first offense, then received a fine for any additional offenses.
