A public hearing on the proposed annexations will take place at the City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Got questions about the proposed annexations? Or need more information?
At stake
The City Council is considering annexing 10,000 Guilford County residents into the city. Most live northwest of the city in the Cardinal neighborhoods and surrounding developments.
If approved, the city would provide new residents with fire and police protection, water and sewer service and garbage pick up. In exchange, those residents would pay city taxes — the owner of a $200,000 house could expect to pay about $1,270. That's on top of the $1,383 in county taxes the owner already pays.
Next step
A public hearing on the proposed annexations will take place at the City Council meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington St.
