GREENSBORO -- Just when it looked like Western Alamance had run out of life, quarterback Donald Britt provided CPR.

Britt had a 33-yard run setting up a game-tying 2-yard plunge and then scored on a 25-yard run in overtime to lead the Warriors to a 14-7 come-from-behind victory over Dudley. With the win, Western (11-0, 6-0) clinched the Triad 3-A conference crown.

"I think Donald Britt has grown up tremendously this season," Capps said. "He's playing fantastic and that's what people expect of him now."

With Dudley (7-3, 3-2) turning in its finest defensive performance of the season, the Warriors were unable to get their high-powered offense on track for almost the entire game. Down 7-0 with four minutes to play, Britt led Western on a 14-play, 92-yard drive to tie the game at 7 with 58 seconds to play.

Dudley let the clock run out in regulation and the Warriors got the ball first in overtime. After a penalty put Western back on the 25-yard line, Britt dropped back to pass on third down. He found no receiver open so he took off to his right. He faked one defender at the 5-yard line and dived into the end zone for the score.

Dudley's possession in overtime ended on a interception and the Warriors had escaped with another victory.

"It took everything we had and every breath of life in our bodies," Capps said. "I'm proud of their team (Dudley). They played very hard and with a lot of class."

The Panthers squandered many chances to score in the first half and the score at halftime was 0-0. The Panthers scored on a 69-yard pass play in the third quarter that worked because the Warriors had nine and 10 defenders up near the line to stop the run.

"I told my kids we played with a lot of heart and that is the way we are going to have to play in the playoffs," said Dudley coach Steven Davis.
