Man killed after scooter struck

GREENSBORO - A 59-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a pickup truck while driving a motor scooter, police said.

The man, whose name was not released by police, was traveling eastbound at 8 p.m. on West Market Street near Pomona Drive, Greensboro police said. The man was struck by a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Kevin James Gallimore Sr., 54, that was traveling west in the center turn lane, preparing to turn left onto Pomona Drive, police said.

The driver of the scooter was pronounced dead at Moses Cone Hospital.

All lanes of West Market Street beteen Montrose and Westgate Drives were shut down after the accident until shortly before 10 p.m. while traffic investigators determined what happened.

The investigation is continuing. Information on possible charges won't be available until the investigation is completed, police said.
