ELON - At this point in the season, Western Alamance is all about staying composed and finishing strong.

On Friday night, the Warriors started strong and didn't let up in a 49-14 rout of Western Guilford.

"We got in a rut last week, so we talked about finishing strong," said Western Alamance coach Hal Capps. "We've got a lot more games to play so let's finish strong. Tonight, we had a great game plan and we executed it well."

The game didn't start the way the Warriors would have liked, with quarterback Donald Britt being intercepted on his first pass. He had an open receiver, but the ball floated in a strong wind.

Britt didn't make that mistake again. After the defense got the ball back on an interception by Kenneth Lindsay, the Warriors ran the exact same play, this time Britt found Lindsay for a 50-yard touchdown and a quick 7-0 lead.

"In the last game, I wasn't too hot," Britt said. "This game I wanted to control my attitude. After that interception, I just had to get my composure. I wanted to prove to myself and my teammates that last week was just a one game fluke."

Before the end of the first quarter, Britt had convinced most everybody in the stadium that he was definitely not taking Western Guilford lightly. Britt rounded out the first period scoring with a Houdini-like run, escaping from tacklers and weaving his way down the field for a 79-yard touchdown to give the Warriors a 28-0 lead.

Britt added a 13-yard touchdown run and finished with 138 yards rushing and 99 yards passing.

Western Alamance's defense controlled the Hornets passing game from the beginning to the end. They sacked the Western Guilford quarterback three times and intercepted five passes.

Western Alamance (9-0, 4-0 Triad 3-A) finishes the regular season next week at Dudley.

"We've gotta go on the road and that's the challenge," Capps said. "It's going to be a heckuva football game."
