GIBSONVILLE - Gerrod Herbin and Eastern Guilford have as much confidence as any team in the area right now.

The Wildcats created six Southwest Guilford turnovers, converting most of those into points in rolling to a 41-21 win over the Cowboys on Friday night. The win improved Eastern's record to 4-2 and Herbin, a junior running back, said the team expects to be perfect the rest of the season.

"We look forward to a good season and going 9-2 and we'll accept nothing less than that," Herbin said. "We've lost two games and we've learned from those mistakes. We're not a team that quits. We just keep working hard."

Herbin worked hard all night for the Wildcats, carrying the ball 16 times for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Several times Herbin absorbed an initial hit and used his speed to get away from other defenders.

"You can't coach 4.3 (in the 40) speed," said Eastern coach Scott Loosemore. "He keeps his feet moving better than any running back I have ever coached."

Herbin was vital to the Wildcats, but the Eastern defense was the true difference in the game, setting up the offense with a short field to work with on numerous occasions.

"The defense really sparked it for us tonight," Loosemore said. "We knew they were trying to run the ball and they got us on a couple of plays, but once we stopped the run, they were forced to pass."

The Wildcats were ready for the passing game. They intercepted five passes, with defensive back Josh Morehead returning one of them for a touchdown.

"We really have a complete football team. Offense. Defense," Gerrod Herbin said. "And our kicker has really improved. I'm really proud of him."
