The last time Maryland faced Wake Forest, a trip to the ACC championship game hung in the balance. The Terrapins (2-1) have a different incentive in the rematch Saturday: revenge and a 1-0 start in the ACC.
Wake Forest beat Maryland 38-24 last November and advanced to the ACC title game. The sting of that defeat still lingers with the Terrapins, making this league opener a bit more special than most.
"Had it just been another ACC team and not Wake Forest, that revenge factor might not be there," guard Jaimie Thomas said Tuesday. "It's been a long time coming. ... To open up our ACC schedule by beating them would be pretty nice."
TEXAS: Freshman running back James Henry has been charged with two felony counts of obstruction and tampering with evidence, making him the sixth Longhorns player arrested since June. Henry is accused of beating up one of the victims of a July home invasion that allegedly involved two other players, Andre Jones and Robert Joseph. Henry was suspended indefinitely.
LSU: Linebacker Derrick Odom was arrested for the second time in less than a month. Odom, a freshman, is accused of attempting to kick in the window of a student's car. Last month, Baton Rouge police briefly jailed Odom on misdemeanor charges after he allegedly drove his shoulder into an apartment door of a student, damaged the student's vehicle and threatened the student and the student's father. Odom, who was suspended by coach Les Miles, agreed to pay restitution, and the charges were dropped. His suspension was lifted Sept. 10.
