CHARLOTTE (AP) — NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr. plans to open a bar in downtown Charlotte.
But don't expect a monument to the popular driver or to racing.
Instead, Whiskey River — named after the bar at Earnhardt's house — will look like a basement bar, said Chris Epstein, who is partnering with Earnhardt, the majority owner.
"He really wants it to be a cool place he can take his friends and not be a shrine to anyone," Epstein said.
A news release says Whiskey River will feature a live music, a mechanical bull, multiple TVs, and chicken wings. The bar is scheduled to open in December in a 10,000-square-foot space across from the main entrance to the Bobcats Arena, home to the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.
Earnhardt said in a news release that he chose Charlotte because it's "where I'm at the most and it's home."
