The rules: Greensboro’s mandatory water restrictions
* Using sprinklers on your lawn or garden is allowed one day each week: the day your garbage is picked up. If your pickup day is Monday, Labor Day will still be your watering day.
* If you don’t have city garbage pickup or you have multiple pickup days, your watering day is Wednesday.
* You may water your lawn with a hose, can or drip irrigation any day.

Lawn survival during conditions
Lawns can survive under drought conditions with minimal watering.
Some types of grass go dormant when drought conditions are present. During this period, the grass turns yellow, but healthy grass will recover when water again becomes available.
When deciding how much water to put on a lawn, factor in what kind of grass you have, its age, your soil type (sandy soils drain quickly, clay soils hold water), shade in your yard, and normal wear and tear.
