GREENSBORO - Police are looking for a 96-year-old woman and her grandson who have not been seen since Aug. 7.

Jannie Dye Lee left her former home at 2508 16th St. that day with her grandson Victor Tyrone Powell, 43, according to Greensboro Police reports.

They may be in a four-door black Honda, possibly headed to Burlington, Mass., police said.

Powell and Lee have lived in Massachusetts since March, when Powell agreed to take care of Lee at his home, Cpl. Paul McDonald said.

They had been back in Greensboro visiting family, but were returning to Massachusetts so Lee could see a doctor there. But police are unsure if they left ever left North Carolina.

Police also have not been able to locate a current Massachusetts address or driver's license for Powell, McDonald said. Police there have not been able to locate either Lee or Powell, he said.

Powell does freelance computer work, so there is no employer for police to contact either, he said.

Lee's daughter reported her mother, who is on oxygen, and Powell missing on Aug. 24 when she could not make contact with either.

Police are asking for the public's help because the case is unusual, McDonald said, especially given Lee's age and that both have never been arrested for a crime.

"It doesn't fit what we normally get," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 373-1000.
