GREENSBORO - There's no sign of a statue of Mary stolen from Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, but parishioners have found a way to fill the void.

A small concrete statue of Mary has been placed where a 5-foot fiberglass statue of the mother of Jesus used to stand. The bronze-colored statue was reported stolen from her pedestal on West Market Street last week.

The small statue was surrounded Monday by a bouquet of flowers, prayer cards and rosaries.

Her whereabouts - and who stole her - remains unknown, said Tom Johnson, the parish business manager.

The statue of Mary, with arms extended at her sides and palms open, is known as "Our Lady of Grace."

The church will replace the statue, which will likely cost several thousand dollars.
