Southeastern Guilford County residents plan to rally in downtown Greensboro today against an asphalt plant planned for the area.
The rally had originally been scheduled for Tuesday but was rained out, according to Don Vaughan, an attorney for the residents. It has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. today outside the Old County Courthouse at 301 W. Market St.
Residents say the plant, which would stand off Liberty Road near the Interstate 85 bypass, will create noise, pollution and safety risks in the area.
The company that wants to build it, Sharpe Bros., says the plant will fit in with other industry that’s already there.
The final call is up to the county commissioners, who will decide Thursday whether to rezone the 14.5-acre tract and issue a special permit for the plant.
