REIDSVILLE — Two seats will be uncontested and likely won by incumbents in the Reidsville City Council election.
But four people are aiming for two seats in the city's District B: incumbents W. Clark Turner and Joan M. Zdanski will face challengers Caldwell "Bubba" Hobbs III and Walter King in the Oct. 9 election.
The filing period for the City Council elections closed at noon Friday.
Zdanski is running for her fifth consecutive term, she said, and believes that challengers will only help her run a better race.
"Competition makes you better," she said. "You have to sharpen your skills and see what you're all about."
Hobbs, a retired postal worker, said he's running because he's got plenty of time to devote to the job.
"I just like to give everybody a choice," he said, rather than just seeing two incumbents on ballots.
Turner is running for his second consecutive term, and fourth since 1981.
"I must admit, we would have been excited if we had no competition," he said.
King is already working on his campaign, focusing on crime and education.
"I see a disparity between the haves and the have-nots," he said.
In District A, incumbents John H. Henderson and George Otis Rucker will run unopposed, but could face challengers through a write-in vote.
Election Day for Eden, Madison, Mayodan, Stoneville and Wentworth is Nov. 6. Filing has closed for those elections.
