REIDSVILLE — A 16-year-old girl loitering in front of a convenience store cussed out a deputy, grabbed him by the shirt and then struck him in the face early this morning, according to the sheriff's office.

At 1:21 a.m. Friday, Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Smith was at Stadler's Grocery on Highway 14 when he saw several people loitering in the parking lot and told them to leave.

Lakendra Chantel Tucker, of 210 Franklin St. in Reidsville, began cussing and had to be physically restrained, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

She then assaulted Smith before being arrested, the sheriff's office alleges.

Tucker was treated at Annie Penn Hospital and released for injuries suffered during the struggle.

She was charged with assault on a government official and was released on an unsecured bond.
