GRAHAM — A man turned himself in to Alamance County sheriff’s deputies Thursday morning, telling them he shot and killed his girlfriend’s mother Wednesday.
Velvin Ezequial Diaz, 23, told the deputies that he took his girlfriend’s mother, Yesenia Judith Zavala, to a heavily wooded area on a farm in southern Alamance County and shot her several times, according to police. Then Diaz led sheriff’s deputies to her body.
In a news release, Randy Jones, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said Diaz and Zavala had a domestic conflict that led to the shooting. Diaz was charged with first-degree murder in Zavala’s death.
