Man backs into building after stealing SUV

WINSTON-SALEM - A man stole the SUV of a newspaper carrier and backed it into an apartment building Friday morning, police said.

At 4:20 a.m., Handy Junior Green, 58, was delivering newspapers at the Town View Apartments at 600 W. 14th St., Winston-Salem police said

Green got out of his 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada, which had been left running, to deliver a newspaper.

A man approached Green from behind and pushed him away from the car, police said. The man got into the car and put it in reverse, hitting with the front door of 600 W. 14th St.

The man drove away and the car was later found unoccupied at Paisley Middle School at 1400 Grant Ave., police said.

Green, of 508 Merriweather Drive in King, was not injured. Annie Brown, the resident of the apartment, was treated at the scene for respiratory difficulties.

Police are searching for a man who was described as black, between the ages of 20 and 25, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, thin and wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
