Prepare for some traffic snarls over the next year if you travel at night along Interstates 40/85 in Alamance and Orange counties.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is rehabilitating a 7.8-mile section of I-40/I-85 from east of N.C. 54 in Alamance County to west of Buckhorn Road in Orange County. During the work, motorists can expect heavy delays.
Up to three of the four travel lanes may be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday. On the weekends - from 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Friday through Sunday - work will close up to two of the four lanes.
Work on the $9.7 million project began Friday and is expected to be completed in November 2008.
