To our west are the giant peaks above the Hiawassee River. To the east, the wild seashore of the Atlantic Ocean. Some 270 miles from each point. Perfectly located in the middle of paradise.
But the point of interest in the Piedmont Triad is no milepost. The best part of North Carolina is its spiritual center. All roads lead to the middle, and most of them are paved.
Our most important roads here in the natural middle of North Carolina lead not to other cities or places of business but to golf courses and fishing ponds, campgrounds and bike trails.
The best roads are the ones that end in the middle of somewhere else, far from downtowns and shopping malls. There are still places like that in the Piedmont Triad. In fact, there are far more than we realize.
