Police Chief David Wray met with representatives of the Greensboro Police Officers Association on Thursday to discuss issues including the concerns of black officers who say they are being singled out for investigation.

Wray and the association agreed to meet monthly to discuss that and any future issues, according to a news release from the Greensboro Police Department.

Wray also promised "to fully investigate the perception" that black officers have been targeted.

The issue flared up last week, after a lawyer for police Lt. James Hinson said the officer found a tracking device on his police car.

The incident has focused attention on the department's Special Intelligence Division - known among some rank-and-file officers as the "secret police."

The attorney for the officers' association has said that black officers have been subject to unfair discipline.

The association said it believes Wray will conduct a thorough investigation and will make corrections where necessary, according to the release.

"It is the hope of both Chief Wray and the association that by our meeting today and our continued meetings in the future, we will foster the trust and confidence of all in the community in their police department," the release said.
