Frequently Asked Questions
The
News & Record's editorial pages provide a daily local forum for dialogue,
ideas and constructive debate. The Opinion page is the main editorial
page. It contains, on its far left-hand side, “house editorials,” which
express the official stance of the newspaper. It also typically contains
letters to the editor and editorial cartoons.
The Second Opinion page, also called the “op-ed page,” contains a variety
of syndicated columns. It also offers a regular lineup of local columnists
and frequently features guest columns from our readers, experts on issues
in the news, community newsmakers and News & Record readers. In addition,
you’ll find “Doonesbury” and a third editorial cartoon there.
The Sunday Ideas section is an expanded commentary section that includes
editorials and letters, plus two additional opinion pages. The Ideas
front page features in-depth commentaries on a variety of subjects.
Sometimes the page is devoted to one topic; at other times, it covers
an assortment of topics. The Ideas section also contains the weekly
book page, which features locally and nationally written reviews.
