In 2004, I was part of a team exploring the creation of a new regional newspaper in the area between Greensboro and Burlington.
We went on a field trip, exploring developing neighborhoods and shopping centers.

Construction was rampant, and the area seemed poised for explosive growth.

We launched the Rock Creek Record in May 2005, and it has been the local paper ever since.

The Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday to put liquor-by-the-drink referendum on the November ballot.

Liquor by the drink for Elon?

Elon's Board of Aldermen will decide Tuesday whether to put a liquor-by-the-drink the vote on the ballot in November.

North Carolina ABC regulations prohibit such an election to take place on a presidential election day, so the board could put it on the ballot this fall or wait until November 2013.

WHITSETT — The Town Council will hold a public hearing June 14 on next year’s proposed budget.

The budget includes drawing $24,000 from the fund balance to cover town expenses. The balanced budget would be $103,000, which is 3 percent larger than this year’s.

Pat Somers with Partnership Property Management, which manages the town-owned apartment complex for seniors and disabled people, said the financial outlook for the property is good.
