High Point considers land for park

After a closed session Monday night to discuss purchase of property, the High Point City Council asked staff to negotiate the purchase of 50 acres for a park.

City Manager Strib Boynton said the property is located north of Burton Avenue, behind Cornerstone Health Care and North State Communication’s headquarters.

The North Carolina Collection, which is housed in the Wilson Library on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, seeks to document the history, literature and culture of the state by actively collecting, organizing and providing access to publications, photos and artifacts. It encourages use by the university community, the state’s residents and other researchers.

Local high school to host theater festival

Last year, Grimsley High School’s theater students made the trek to Washington, N.C., to participate in the N.C. Theater Conference High School Play Festival.

This year, they won’t need to travel so far. Grimsley was chosen to host one of the 2009 Central Regional competitions, one of eight regional events across the state.
