Families that bowl together...
Image accompanying article

Take your family bowling and get a meal for free Monday.

The event, part of nationwide Family Day 2009 activities, is from noon to 6 p.m. at AMF-All Star Lanes at 910 S. Holden Road.

It's sponsored by the bowling alley, Alcohol and Drug Services, Guilford County Substance Abuse Coalition and Chick-fil-A.

It's free for all Guilford County residents and will include door prizes from participating local businesses and restaurants.

All youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the event and are reminded to wear sneakers. No rental shoes are required.

Research shows that children whose families eat dinner together are less likely to get involved in drugs and alcohol, said Amanda Story, a prevention service consultant with Alcohol and Drug Services.

For more information, contact Story at 333-6860 Ext. 241 or astory@ADSyes.org.

Blu-ray player for $130

Pretty good deal on a Blu-ray player at hhgregg: Sharp Aquos (model number BDHP22U) for $129.88 (regular $249.99).

By comparison, it's $179.99 at Amazon.com.

Deal valid Friday and Saturday only.

Got decent reviews, too.

Consumer Reports gave it a 74 out of 100. Not great. But not bad, either.

"This step-up Blu-ray player from Sharp is a BD-Live model that has very good overall performance, and excellent HD picture quality," the magazine says. "It comes with 2GB of memory, more memory than most. Its Blu-ray load time was on the slower side, despite a quick-start feature."

Nintendo confirms Wii price cut

The Wii will be getting cheaper starting Sunday, Nintendo confirmed late yesterday.

That's when the price of the popular video game system will be cut by $50 to $200.

The timing comes as the Wii Fit-Plus and new Super Marios Bros. games are set to be released.

I'm partial to the Xbox 360, but I've enjoyed playing Wii with my nephews. They do a good job keeping their uncle humble during games of Wii Bowling.

Musical instrument consignment sale in Greensboro

A reminder that The Music Academy of North Carolina in Greensboro is hosting the first annual musical instrument consignment sale this weekend.

They will then go on sale the next day beginning at 8 a.m.

To reserve your space to sell, send an e-mail to sdicamillo@musicacademync.org or call 336-379-8748, extension 112.

The event is sponsored by Noteworthy Piano Service, Artley Violins and Music Barn.

Wii reportedly will see price drop

There's a first time for everything, right?

Nintendo, which has never cut the price of its poplar Wii video game system since its debut in 2006, will see its price drop by $50 to $200 beginning Sunday, Tech blog Engadget is reporting.

Engadget cited a leaked memo from Best Buy Co. talking about the price drop.

This also comes after rival console makers Microsoft and Sony cut the prices of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 video game systems in August.

But the Wii is king - it's the top selling console on the planet.
