A preview of the cross country teams at Wesleyan:

Coach: Brian Roberts (second season at Wesleyan; sixth season overall).

Conference: Piedmont Athletic 3-A (NCISAA).

BOYS

Runners to watch: Drew Thompson (junior; 16:36; all-state); Chris Kabrich (junior; 19:36); Bradley Davis (freshman; 19:44).

Expectations: "We will be very competitive in one of the most competitive NCISAA conferences," Roberts says. "I expect us to surprise a few teams this season and continue to build a program that only has one senior runner."

2009 result: Second place in Piedmont Athletic; 11th place in NCISAA state meet.

Runners they'll miss: Greg Young, Sam Young, John Bradley, Conner Andrews, Brandon Alexander, David Corliss, Aaron Allred.

GIRLS

Runners to watch: Noelle Coryell (23:27), Aubrey Thompson (24:27), Madison Hancock (26:04).

Expectations: "To be competitive and continue to grow the program," Roberts says. "We are being led by a big group of freshmen girls. With only two seniors and three junior contributors, we are a really young squad, which is showing a lot of early-season potential."

2009 result: Third place in Piedmont Athletic; 11th place in NCISAA state meet.

Runners they'll miss: Erin Frawley.
