Anna Smith, a sophomore at Northern Guilford, moved up to a 10th-place finish in the heptathlon in the girls 15-16 age division at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships on Wednesday at A&T's Irwin Belk Track.
Smith, competing for Platinum Sports Academy, finished with 3,902 points and missed ninth place by one point. Twenty-three heptathletes competed.
Other highlights from Wednesday:
Ethan Morris of the Greensboro Champions finished 15th in the decathlon in the boys 15-16 division.
Osvaldo Hernandez of the High Point Panthers Track Club finished fourth in the 3,000-meter race walk (21:39.96) in the boys 17-18 division.
Kendall Vernon of the Greensboro Cheetahs finished ninth in the 3,000-meter race walk (23:15.77) in the girls 15-16 division.
Platinum Sports Academy -- runners Devin Foust, Derek Linder, Andrew Stout and Carl Walton -- took 11th place in the 4 x 800 relay (9:01.50) in the boys 15-16 division.
Twenty event finals are on Thursday's schedule.
