Updated at 3:30 p.m. with news from IAFF and new fundraising total:
The International Association of Fire Fighters' Medal of Honor will be presented to Will Caviness' widow, Jenny, at the Greensboro firefighter's funeral.
Harold Schaitberger, the IAFF's general president, has classified Caviness' death near the end of Sunday's Chicago Marathon as a line-of-duty death because he was working for the IAFF's Burn Foundation during the run.
Meanwhile, Friends of the family and fellow runners from the race continue to give.
Donations to the IAFF's Burn Foundation through Caviness' fundraising page have topped $13,000, as of 3:30 p.m. today.
Caviness set a goal of $2,000 and posted on his Facebook fundraising page less than 24 hours before the race's start that donations had passed that mark.
And expressions continue to pour out for Caviness and his family:
- "My wife finished Chicago with me and my little girls watching. My heart is broken for your family. God's speed and rest in reace Will." -- Will Parrish.
- "I ran the 2011 Chicago Marathon and was saddened by the loss of your comrade, husband, father and loved one." -- Anonymous.

- "I have known Will’s family for many years. I am so grief stricken over the news I came home to today. My prayers are to all the family. I am just in shock right now as I read all the news of Will’s death. A fine young man trying to help a wonderful cause. Rest in peace Will." -- Barbara Goff.
- "I am a fellow Chicago Marathoner who can't get this story out of my mind. God Bless Will, his family and his cause!" -- Christie Stocking.
- "In memory of Firefighter Will Caviness, from another Chicago & Greensboro runner. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. You are in my prayers." -- Angela Hartwig.
