Ryan Shell’s campaign is a little bit old school and a little bit new school.
He has gotten his name out there through his blog, GreensboroPolitics.com. But when it comes to making his mark in a crowded field in the City Council at-large race, Shell is going door-to-door to meet voters.
“I want to hit 25,000 doors,” Shell said at a recent Saturday gathering of his campaign volunteers.
Shell is a former radio DJ and current public relations professional working for a credit union.
He works hard professionally and through his volunteer work in Greensboro -- and he’ll do the same if he is elected, Shell said.
“I am a very good listener. I am a very good communicator,” Shell said. “I would like to collaborate to meet a common goal.”
Shell promotes himself as a leader who can get things done. He has helped Willow Oaks neighbors whose homes were flooding. He picks up trash on neighborhood streets. He created a network that links community-watch groups to share information.
When other city leaders were urged to not go to a neighborhood where a teenager was shot to death, Shell went to visit the grieving mother. (So did current council members Yvonne Johnson and Trudy Wade.)
“There is nothing that will keep me away (from a part of Greensboro),” Shell said.
