Thinking Out Loud

Super Bowl: The morning after

Some quick thoughts on the Super Bowl:

Very good game that was contested deep into the fourth quarter. One of the gutsiest calls in Super Bowl history by New Orleans to open the second half with an onside kick.

Who could not feel good for the city of New Orleans pulling this one out  -- and by coming from behind, no less. It wasn't that long ago that the Saints were playing home games in Baton Rouge after Katrina had peeled the Super Dome like an onion. And it wasn't that long ago that it seemed the team might move somewhere else. Too bad for former Wake Forest coach Jim Caldwell not getting a Super Bowl ring in his rookie season, but the Saints needed this one more.

The Super Bowl commercials were lackluster (what was it with two consecutive ads with people in underwear?). But the Letterman/Oprah/Leno one saved the night.

Since I did not have a dog in this fight. I had a lot less interest in it.
It was a very good game.

You overlooked the Snickers commercial with Betty White and Abe Vigoda. It was fall-down funny!

Actually I missed it. May have been making a Dorito run. I'll have to check YouTube.

The Geico commercial was good and so was the Dorito commercial with the guy in the coffin. The ad for monster.com with the people in their underwear pointed out that there are a WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE you want to wear clothes! Nudity as a dress code would be toxic.

I didn't have a favorite team so it was a joy to watch a contest that went back and forth and wasn't over until near the end.
I am glad NO won for the reasons you stated. I do hope the nation and our government doesn't forget we still have a city to rebuild...that a Super Bowl championship is not going to make up for our nation's indifference to our own citizens and its infrastructure.

Good point. I hear more people talking about the commercials than what is left to be done in New Orleans.
