Enter the haggis

"A Scottish member of parliament wil be in DC today lobbying lawmakers to drop the U.S. ban on imported haggis," The Hill reports.

I've had haggis. It's best consumed with strong drink. In Scotland, in fact, the more strong drink and the less haggis, the better.

But there's no reason why Americans shouldn't have the opportunity to try it for themselves.

Enter the Haggis, by the way, is the name of a rip-roaring good Canadian fiddle-pipes band, which is coming to Charlotte, Raleigh and Asheville in April.

I rather enjoyed haggis when we visited Scotland many moons ago. Liked it so much I tried it in every city we visited to see if there was regional variation. If you can abstract it from its ingredients, it's quite tasty. 'Course, that's pretty much true of any sausage-like meat product... ;-)

I have to admit, I liked haggis the first time I had it, for three reasons, none of which had to do with strong drink:

1. It was homemade by a cousin of mine in North Berwick.

2. I'd been backpacking around the country for a couple of weeks on a shoestring and was seriously undernourished.

3. I didn't really know what it was.

I have distant cousins near Inverness. Tatties and neeps I have eaten here. Scottish Haggis with a dram I have not. Thanks for the wonderful haggis stories I just read. The three legged Haggis bird must have been a sight. Long live haggis.
PETA probably got mixed up with the extinct bird concept and complained to congress. Lack of humor I guess
