A tip for social services

I like dogs, so naturally the tale of poor Susie the puppy has bothered me.

I'm more troubled to learn that the young man charged in this case of extreme animal abuse is the father of a baby.

For some people, how they treat animals may predict how they treat children.

I hope social services is going to take a look.

I am concerned. The mother of the man that set fire to a puppy should under no circumstance have custody of her grandchild. Social services can only do so much with whacko, disfunctional families heading into dead ends.

I'm concerned not just that he is the father, but that he is left alone with this child. After this week's notorious case of child abuse in Fayetteville, I should hope the state will waste no time in looking into this child's situation.

As to this young man's mother's comments: There is no excuse for his behavior. His brother died a few years ago, he has no job. These are not reasons to abuse anybody or anything. If you suspect he has mental health issues, it is time to take him for treatment.

Doug, you obviously didn't read the article. He set the dog on fire to protect his child.
