Off the Record

Meanwhile, on the John Edwards story ...

Enough about Mark Sanford. Let's get back to John Edwards.

The New York Times reports today that Edwards' former aide Andrew Young claims in a book proposal that Edwards pressured him to claim paternity of THAT baby.

Who would have guessed?

The Times reports:

"In his proposal, Mr. Young quotes Mr. Edwards, a Democrat who was his party’s vice-presidential nominee in 2004 and ran for president last year, as begging him to confess to fathering Ms. Hunter’s baby.

“ ‘You know how much I love you,’ Edwards said. ‘You know I’d walk off a cliff for you, and I know you’d walk off a cliff for me,’ ” Mr. Young wrote in the book proposal. “ ‘I will never forget this. And I will always be there for you.’ ”

Sounds like what John might have said to Elizabeth.

I don't give Young much credit for ratting out Edwards for money, by the way.

If he was willing to lie for Edwards for money, he should have stuck with it.

Where's the honor among liars?

Doug it has been suggested in the comments on this story at the N&O that Edwards (with no visible means of support and a lavish lifestyle) is running low on cash and Elizabeth's book burned bridges they shouldn't have.

Hunter and Young have to eat. Hunter has a mouth to feed.

I left a comment at the N&O and I'm going to leave it here:

"You know, back during the last Edwardian Presidential campaign . . . when John-Boy was using the tragedy of New Orleans as a stepping stone . . . when Saint Elizabeth was "converging south" in Greensboro . . . and when I was trying to related my experience as a constituent-in-public-service-BURNED - AND COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF BY SENATOR EDWARDS - to the fawning "progressive" GSO blogging elite (ala Polinsky, ala Cone) . . . I never in a million-zillion years imagined that Edwards' slime-ball-lawyerly-hypocrisy would ever be on such perfect display as it is now."

Alas, Ed and Sue, et.al., will not get to jump on the mattress in the Lincoln. So sad.

Oh, and I told you so.

This situation speaks eloquently to the status & evolution of local blogging (2005- 2009). I know I won't be reading about it in the N&R.

Sometimes folks get their just desserts, sometimes they don't.

That's exactly the kind of lamo retort I would expect.

There's no honor among liars. But some get to get away with it because our local newspapers look the other way.

Nice, Doug.

Must have been a 2 inch cliff? So much for true political love!

Sorry, Mary, but this just isn't about you.

Another tired "oldie but goodie" (and not even an original). Nice.

Actually, this time, Doug is IS (don't you just love that word?) about me . . . me and my parents (who watched their daughter get publicly eviscerated) and my patients (who lost their doctor) and my community (who lost Pediatricians who wanted to stay - Pediatricians that the community clearly needed) and ALL of the other North Carolina consituents that were USED, ignored and/or taken for granted by John & Elizabeth Edwards in their rabid bid for the White House. Edwards was too busy chasing his tail (and apparently other tails) to be bothered with the problems of a no-name/no-money MD in Federal service - nevermind that she was BURNED in the very kind of program he advocated to bring doctors to rural areas. It's called hypocrisy. What part of that are you having difficulty understanding?

We elect these people to fairly and honestly represent us. It's about us.

It wasn't so very long ago that the News & Record and the News & Observer were shamelessly promoting this snake-oil salesman as North Carolina's favorite son and THE answer to all of our problems.

I'm sorry too. That our local journalists are so myopic and agendized.

And yes, Connie, it was a short cliff.

Sheesh, Dr. Mary, if we all just say once and for all that you got screwed, will you stop hijacking these blog entries and making them about you? I don't even know the facts about your case, but your blog comments have waterboarded me into submission. Where do I sign? "Dr. Mary was done wrong. Signed, Andrew Brod." Now, please! Enough already!

Enough about Edwards, and Sanford.
I much rather read about the new 9 million dollar jet NC order, while saying we are broke and must raise taxes, to save our kids and teachers.
Seems the taxpayers took a bath on this!

Easley canceled the jet order last October. The state lost $4,375 of its deposit:
