Send us your fliers

Labor Day marks the traditional start of the Fall campaign season in North Carolina, which means you’ll be seeing a lot more political advertisements hitting the mailbox and television set, particularly in state legislative races and Congressional campaigns.

A few questions come up again and again watching looking at these campaign ads: Are the claims true? Can anyone be as truly objectionable (or desirable) as they’re made out to be in an ad? Do those footnotes really support the claims?

Well, that’s what your friendly neighborhood News & Record political reporters are here for. If you send us the ad in electronic form or can mail it to us, we’ll try to do fact checks on as many as we can. We’re most interested in fliers regarding races in Guilford, Rockingham and Davidson counties and will look at everything from the U.S. Senate race on down to county commissioner and city council campaigns. If you see an ad but aren't able to get a copy or recording, send an e-mail describing it and who aired it and we'll go looking.

N/R: I appreciate your efforts to seek the truth in political ads. Could you play catch-up & research the mailers & web site of the now Mayor of Pleasant Garden? ( I do have copies, but am very careful with sharing because of a vicious group of Pleasant Garden residents). I know the intent of Scoop is for the upcoming election, but Bill Greene's untruths put out there last fall were totally false information & the people believe it. You also need to check out the flags on Pleasant Garden Road. This is the third time he has displayed them & they still tangle & blow into Duke Energy wires (Where's Duke energy?). Greensboro is known as a Patriotic City while the Town of Pleasant Garden's efforts make them the most Unpatriotic City in the US. Why does this council not follow the US flag code?(a) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. Also the PG Lions Club plants @ least 50 flags in the ground on the same road. Bill Greene is a member and past President of this club!
The flags (on the third time being put up by the town) are in the power lines again. Three strikes & the town council is out! I have photos taken a few minutes ago, no wind, but three are still tangled in the lines & almost all of them hit the lines in a small breeze!!

To answer your questions:

No, we're not going to go back and look at elections past. Sorry, but we have all we can handle with the current doings.
